A means of specifying the relationship between logic states and logic levels on a diagram drawn without the use of the polarity indicator symbol. On a diagram drawn in positive logic the 1-state everywhere corresponds with the more positive value of the quantity (usually voltage) used to represent the logic states in the hardware. With the negative logic convention the 1-state corresponds with the less positive value of the variable quantity. If the polarity indicator symbol is used, its absence or presence at every input and output of each symbol indicates the logic relationship in force at each point.
